COMMUNITY REHABILITATION

WHAT DOES ALBERTA HEALTH SERVICES - CAPITAL HEALTH COVER?

Alberta Health Services - Capital Health's Community Rehabilitation Program (CRP) will cover your initial assessment and, if you qualify for coverage, the full cost of up to two treatments per year (April 1 - March 31).  There are other options available to possibly receive four more visits.  Please contact our clinic for more information.

If you require more treatments, the extra visits may be covered by other health benefits (see What are my other options?).  If you have no other coverage, your physical therapist may apply to CRP for a review of your case and see if further treatments can be covered.

If additional treatments are not approved, you will be responsible to cover the cost.

WHO QUALIFIES?

To find out if your physical therapy services will be covered by Alberta Health Services - Capital Health, call one of our clinics and make an appointment for a CRP assessment.

A physical therapist will assess the impact of your injury or condition has on your daily activities, and the benefit you are likely to get from therapy, to determine whether you qualify for CRP funded treatments.  If you do not qualify based on your assessment, you may want to look into your other options, or seek a second assessment at another CRP clinic.

CRP physical therapy assessments are available to residents with a valid Alberta Personal Health Care Number.

Please be patient, as there may be a wait for your assessment.  We strive to help as many people as we can but requests for Alberta Health Services - Capital Health CRP funded physical therapy services often outweigh resources.  A facility or clinic that has a waitlist can refer you to another clinic that may be able to see you sooner.

WHAT ARE MY OTHER OPTIONS?

If you do not want to wait for an assessment, or you do not qualify, you may choose to opt out of the Alberta Health Services - Capital Health CRP funding and privately pay to see a physical therapist, or may have coverage through other health benefits or insurance.

If you were injured on the job, the Workers' Compensation Board may pay for your treatment.  If you were injured in a Motor Vehicle Accident, your motor vehicle insurance might cover it.  You can also choose to pay privately.  Discuss these options with your physical therapist.
